Built for the companies that deserve better than being ignored
Our story
The companies that need competitive intelligence the most are the ones the big strategy firms were never built to serve.
The world's top consulting firms do excellent work. Rigorous analysis. Smart people. But their business model is built for large enterprises with six-figure budgets and months to wait. If your company is a growth-stage software firm, a mid-market manufacturer, or a founder-led company with real competitive pressure and a real decision to make this quarter, you're on your own.
That gap wasn't an accident. It was an artifact of a business model built for a different era, when research was slow, methodology was proprietary, and the only way to access expert thinking was to hire it by the hour.
Rathvane was built for a different era: one where intelligence should arrive when it matters.
Our founder spent thirty years building strategy and marketing infrastructure for companies across the Fortune 500. Thirty years of watching how the best competitive decisions get made, and seeing which companies never get the intelligence they need to make them.
Rathvane is the answer to that problem.
Not a platform. Not a chatbot. A strategic intelligence firm, built on structured methodology and governed process, that delivers the intelligence your decisions require, on the timeline your decisions actually run on.
What we believe
Intelligence should arrive when it matters. Markets move. Competitive windows open and close in weeks, not quarters. Intelligence delivered after the window has closed isn't intelligence. It's history.
You are not a number. The relationship matters. We learn your market, your competitors, and your specific competitive reality. That knowledge compounds over every engagement. You should feel known.
Transparency is not a liability. We document our methodology. We cite our sources. Every claim in a deliverable links to a dated capture, and every statement is either an observation with evidence behind it or a reading marked as ours. The black box model of consulting is a feature for the firm, not the client.
The right word is "intelligence." Not data. Not products. Data is raw material. Products are documents. Intelligence is synthesized, contextualized, and ready to act on. That's what we deliver.
AI is our infrastructure. Judgment is our product. We use AI extensively, the same way a surgeon uses imaging: it makes us faster and more precise. It is how every claim gets checked against a primary source instead of a confident face. The method, the review, and the judgment about what the evidence means are human, and they are labelled as ours.
The founder
Rathvane was founded by John Kirker.
He spent thirty years building marketing and technology infrastructure for Fortune 500 companies, beginning with early work alongside Jay Abraham. He founded Stirling Bridge Group, which served more than a hundred Fortune 500 clients before it was sold. He created the first online loan application, LoanLink.com, in 1996, and the first software-as-a-service platform for mortgage banking, MortgageSites.com. He took PetInsurance.com from $106,000 in revenue to more than $50 million.
In his words:
> "I spent thirty years building systems for Fortune 500 companies. I saw firsthand how the best competitive intelligence gets made, and who gets access to it. It's not the companies that need it most. Rathvane exists to change that."
This isn't a pivot. It's a culmination. Thirty years of understanding how the Fortune 500 makes decisions, distilled into a model that serves the companies the Fortune 500 model was never designed to reach.

Tell us what you're facing
We don't need a long brief. We need to know what decision you're trying to make and what intelligence would change how you make it.
